It contains the largest intact caldera, a collapsed crater covering over 40kms at the top of the mountain, sorrounded by a series of rugged peaks. The Bagisu and the Sabiny are the two ethnic tribes around the mountain.
They practice subsistence farming and conduct circumcision ceremonies every year to prepare young men/women for challenges of adulthood. The two communities have made agreements with the park for sustainable harvest of traditional forest products

Day 1 Depart Kampala
, Our Company representative will pick you from your address in Kampala, head to Jinja where you may spend the night.
Dinner and overnight at Jinja Nile Resort OR Kingfisher
Day 2: Jinja
, After early breakfast, hikers will enjoy visiting Jinja town for a city tour as well as the source of the Nile. After lunch the group will enjoy traditional dances by the local women. There are many options this day, such as swimming, boat rides, floating on the mighty Nile. In the evening return to dinner and overnight at Jinja
Day 3: Jinja- Mount Elgon, After early breakfast the clients leave for Mt Elgon in Eastern Uganda. Transfer to Sipi Falls. After lunch, hike to the falls and return to your camp next to Sipi Falls for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Mount Elgon hiking day starts, Early morning breakfast. Then start the hike following the Kapkwata Trail. A scenic hike through the bamboo, heath and moor land gets you to the Piswa camp at 2850 meters. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in the mountains.
Day 5: Mountain Hiking Elgon, Hike up to the rim of the caldera through beautiful columns of lobelia Elgonensis. Visit the hot springs and Suam Gorge before descending to the hunters cave Camp 3850m.
Day 6: Mount Elgon Hiking, Morning breakfast, then ascend to the top of the caldera to the Wagagai Peak at 4321m. Descend thereafter through the Jackson summit and the Jackson pool to overnight at Mude Camp 3500m.
Day 7: Elgon - Jinja, Early morning, descend through the Sasa trail to Budadiri then travel to Mbale town. Then to Jinja to prepare for your rest. Dinner and overnight at Nile resort or Kingher
Day 8: To Kampala or Entebbe, 8:00am we return to Kampala if you have an on ward flight or return to Kampala after lunch if your address is in Kampala
