Other predators recorded are a side-stripped jackal, spotted hyena, leopard, lion, and various mustelids, genets, mongooses, and small cats. A remarkable 17 species of antelopes occur in this national park.

In Uganda, seven of these are found nowhere else: Grant’s gazelle, greater kudu, lesser kudu, roan antelope, Beira oryx, Guenther’s dik-dik, and mountain reedbuck. These are among the species we will be seeing while we focus on searching for lions.

At 6:00 am, we go to the park gate to make payment for lion tracking. A tracker from the Lion Project in Uganda, from this point on, will lead the tracking. He uses a radio tracker receiver to pinpoint the lions’ location that we are to see.

Often, the lions are off-track, which requires driving off-road to reach Queen Elizabeth National Park’s lions.

When and if the lions are found, you spend 20 – 40 minutes observing them. Ninety-five mammals were recorded in this park, the highest of any national park in Uganda. Ten primates include chimpanzee, vervet, blue, L’Hoest’s monkey, black-and-white colobus, and olive baboon.

There are 20 predators in the Queen Elizabeth national park, including a side-striped jackal, spotted hyena, lion, and leopard. Uganda Kob, bushbuck, Defassa waterbuck, and topi are the most common antelope species.

12:30 pm will find us at the Mweya safari lodge on the Mweya peninsular, where you will have a filling lunch and gaze at the extensive Kazinga Channel. Here you will take a 2 hours boat safari to see several animal species, including the hippopotamus.

Kazinga channel hosts the highest concentration of hippopotami in the world. Finally, we head for another game drive before heading back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
