Visa

Serengeti National Park

An Uganda visa application requires a valid passport for all travel to East Africa.

For your visa, your passport should have six months of validity before the expiration date. Which will also simplify your visit to Murchison Falls National Park.

The government of Uganda, under immigration, have set the rules that guide entry into Uganda.

Travellers

All travellers to Uganda will require a Visa to enter Uganda. The Ministry of Internal Affairs in Uganda announced this on October 14 2021.

They have also listed the procedure to apply for an entry visa to Uganda on their website. Travellers going to Uganda need to have a visa before they travel on their Uganda trip. Visas will no longer be on arrival at any point of entry into Uganda.

VISA

Covid-19

Travellers going to Uganda will not have a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate for complete vaccination to arrive and depart.

Travellers under six will not provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate, whether vaccinated or not.

Temperature checks

All arriving travellers are subject to a mandatory temperature check and screening for infectious diseases by the available personnel from the Ministry of Health of Uganda.

Any traveller whose temperature is above the average body temperature or shows symptoms of COVID-19 will take a COVID-19 test.

A traveller found with COVID-19 and wishes to be repatriated outside of Uganda will pay for all the costs.

Passengers bearing valid airline tickets and passports will be allowed into the terminal building. Read more about the entry visa requirements on the Uganda Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration.

Vaccinated Travelers

Travellers with complete vaccination can now enter Uganda through any port of entry. Also, children under 6 can enter Uganda without presenting a negative COVID-19 PCR test.

At most ports of entry to Uganda, as well as Entebbe airport, you must show proof of Vaccination.

If you are a foreign passport holder planning to enter a country, it’s important to note that entry, re-entry, or departure permits and visas may be required in some instances.

The type of visa you need will depend on the duration of your stay. For example, if you plan to visit Uganda for a short holiday, your visa requirements will differ from someone who wishes to stay longer, such as a volunteer in an NGO.

The type of visa you require depends on how long you plan to stay. Are you planning a short visit to Uganda, e.g. for a holiday? Or would you like to stay longer, e.g. to volunteer in an NGO?

So please apply online and receive your approval, which you must show upon arrival.

Contact the relevant authorities/embassies in good time to check and arrange the necessary permits and visas before your departure.

Don’t trust websites (such as Wikipedia), as information can be old.

All travellers must have a valid onward/return air ticket.

Or proof of other means of transport enabling the traveller to leave the country where your adventure tour terminates.

Alternatively, you must have proof of sufficient funds to purchase an air ticket to leave the country.

Please note that you must have a visa before you arrive at the port of Uganda.

Should the tourist not have the relevant visas to any East African country they intend to visit? We advise you to visit the Uganda immigration website for a smooth application and guiding information.

What to know about a Uganda Visa?

As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, you should know the following information about obtaining a visa for Uganda. Keep in mind that visa regulations and requirements can change, so it’s crucial to verify the latest information with the Ugandan embassy or consulate before planning your trip:

  1. Visa Types:
    • Tourist Visa: This is for tourists visiting Uganda for holidays, sightseeing, and recreational activities.
    • Business Visa: Intended for those travelling to Uganda for business purposes, such as meetings, conferences, and trade activities.
    • Transit Visa: Required for travellers transiting through Uganda to another destination.
  2. Visa on Arrival: Uganda offers visa-on-arrival services for some nationalities. You can obtain a visa at Entebbe International Airport or some land border crossings. However, it’s best to check if this option is available for your nationality and any eligibility requirements.
  3. E-Visa: Uganda also offers an e-visa application process, which allows you to apply for and obtain your visa online before travelling. Check the official website for the e-visa application portal and requirements.
  4. Visa Validity and Extensions: The validity of your visa may vary depending on the type of visa and the issuing authority. Extensions are possible for certain visa types. If you need to extend your stay, you can request an extension through the Uganda Immigration Office.
  5. Visa Fees: The visa fees can vary based on your nationality, the type of visa, and other factors. It’s advisable to check the most up-to-date fee schedule on the official website of the Uganda Immigration Department.
  6. Visa Requirements:
    • Passport: Your passport should be valid for at least six months before you depart from Uganda.
    • Visa Application Form: Complete the relevant visa application form, either online for e-visas or in person if applying at an embassy or on arrival.
    • Passport Photos: Prepare passport-sized photos that meet the specified requirements.
    • Supporting Documents: Depending on the type of visa, you may need to provide documents like a letter of invitation, hotel reservations, and return flight tickets.
    • Yellow Fever Vaccination: A yellow fever vaccination certificate may be required. Check the current health requirements with the Ugandan authorities.
  7. Visa Processing Time: Processing times can vary, so it’s wise to apply well before your travel date to ensure you receive your visa promptly.
  8. Entry and Exit Points: Ensure to enter and exit Uganda through designated immigration checkpoints, such as airports and land border crossings.
  9. Change in Regulations: Visa requirements and regulations can change, so it’s essential to check the most recent information before making travel plans.

For the latest and most accurate information regarding Uganda visas and entry requirements, consult the official website of the Uganda Immigration Department or contact the nearest Ugandan embassy or consulate in your home country.

Additionally, you should verify these details with the relevant authorities, as they may have changed since my last update in September 2021.

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, if you want to renew your tourist visa for Uganda, it is essential to note that visa policies and procedures may change over time. It’s crucial to check with the Ugandan immigration authorities or the nearest Ugandan embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date information and requirements. Here are some general guidelines that may help you with the visa renewal process in Uganda:

  1. Eligibility: Make sure you are eligible for a visa renewal. Tourist visas are typically valid for a specific duration, and you may be allowed to renew them for an additional period if you meet the requirements.
  2. Application: To renew your tourist visa, visit the nearest immigration office in Uganda or an embassy or consulate if you are applying from outside Uganda. You will need to complete the necessary application forms and provide supporting documents.
  3. Supporting Documents: Prepare the required documents, which typically include a completed visa application form, a valid passport, a passport-sized photo, proof of sufficient funds to support your stay, and evidence of your intention to leave Uganda at the end of your renewed visa period (e.g., a return flight ticket).
  4. Fees: Pay the visa renewal fees. Visa fees can change, so check the current fees with the immigration authorities.
  5. Processing Time: The processing time for visa renewals can vary, so it’s advisable to apply well before your visa’s expiration date to avoid any issues.
  6. Interview: In some cases, you may be required to attend an interview at the immigration office or embassy/consulate. Be prepared to answer questions about your travel plans and reasons for visa renewal.
  7. Validity: If your visa renewal is approved, you will receive a new sticker with an extended validity period. Check the visa’s expiration date and adhere to the visa conditions.
  8. Compliance: During your stay in Uganda, comply with the immigration regulations and any conditions attached to your visa, such as not overstaying.

Stay up-to-date with Uganda’s visa regulations and requirements, which can change. Check the official website of the Uganda Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control or contact the nearest Ugandan embassy or consulate for information on visa requirements and renewal processes. Consult with immigration authorities or seek assistance from a legal expert or immigration consultant if you have questions or need help with the renewal process.
